Greetings Brother Nobles,
Here’s to a Great 2019!
Thank you for the honor of electing me to serve as your Potentate for 2019. I will strive to live up to your expectations with membership growth, fun activities and the support of our hospitals. Many of these activities will include your ladies so keep them informed about them.
The new year is well under way with unit and club installations complete and two successful events behind us.
We have a busy and exciting year ahead of us.
Our installation of the Temple Officers was a great success with over 120 attendees. In keeping with our recent return to the “pomp and circumstance” of past years, our installation included the Knights Templars in the ceremony along with a piper. It was truly an impressive performance in the Amphitheatre, and I hope that all our Shriners will want to be present for this important ceremony in the coming years. We had at least 7 Past Potentates, one from Mocha Temple from London, Ontario, present. Our Assistant Rabban, Jeff Gooder, served a great dinner featuring Cornish game hens and all the trimmings. All this was accompanied with enjoyable dinner music provide by the King Violas.
“I M Committed, R U?” This is the Imperial slogan reminding us how important growing our membership is and to bring a prospect into masonry this year. Your Divan intends to stay on track with the Strategic Plan that we adopted two years ago to ensure the future of Saladin. This includes creating fun activities for you to participate in that are income producing while raising the profile of Saladin Shrine in our communities. Chief Rabban, Dale Kramer, is heading up an exciting new opportunity for Saladin. Don’t miss his article in this newsletter.
My Potentate’s pin this year is the Energizer Bunny complete with his Fez, and with Masonic and Shriner symbols and my motto for the year, “Honor the past, Embrace the future”. I have sent my pin to some of you asking for a donation to fund some of the fun activities and to cover the cost of the pin. If this mailing is successful, I hope to send every member one. My Energizer Bunny is intended to “energize” you to do three things this year:
1) Make a donation to the Temple
2) Be active in your club, unit and the Temple,
3) Bring your son, grandson, neighbor, friend to your Shrine or lodge events so he can experience the fellowship.
“Be more than a man, be a Mason.” You may have heard this statement many times. When you are talking about Masonry to someone, use it. Let them know why you became a Mason. We each know someone we would like to be a brother. Invite him to a Masonic or Shriner activity. If your Shrine Club would like to sponsor a Social let us know and we will help you put it on. Call me to get on the schedule.
We would also like to have your club submit an article with pictures for our Saladin Newsletter. Share your successes with the other clubs. Include your upcoming events so other nobles can attend. Submit it to our Recorder prior to April 12th. Check with him to make sure he has space set aside for your article.
Again, thank you for the honor of serving as your Potentate. I would like to ask you to take a minute and put the Saladin schedule into your calendar. Make our Stated Meetings a priority for 2019 and bring your lady. Our Second Annual Lake Michigan Cruise is scheduled for early summer. It was sold out last year and everyone had such a great time we extended the cruise by over an hour. The Cruise boat holds a limited number of people so watch for the invitations in late spring and get your reservation in as soon as you can.
Nobles, you are each an important part of the whole Saladin Temple. Join me in committing to sustaining our momentum and commitment to the future.
Here’s to a great 2019!
Honor the Past, Embrace the Future
Harry Jones, Potentate
