The Saladin contingent had a great time at the East-West Shrine Game in January. Early in the week when the players first get to town, Shriners load them up onto buses and bring them over to our Tampa Shriners Hospital to spend a day with our patients and their families. We hope many of the players will come away from their patient experience with a good feeling about the Shriners fraternity and our life-changing philanthropy.
Its not just the players and coaches who show up that day. Shriners and their ladies, Shrine clowns, cosplayers (people who dress up as a character from a movie, book or video game), and hospital supporters all show up to make the day special. It reminds me of our Shrine Temple. There are many different ways to enjoy the experience of being a Shriner and make a difference. It started with you taking the first step and becoming a Shriner. The minute you took up the fez, you became a part of our Shrine Temple. From there we started a journey together to create a fulfilling fraternal experience for you. The Divan is focused on growing and improving several aspects of this experience. If you make it to one of our Temple meetings over the next couple of years, you will see many positive additions. We hope you can make it out to a shrine meeting or perhaps be involved in one of our parade units, geographic clubs or special interest units in the coming years. You don’t have to make every meeting and be in every group. Just find the thing you like in our Temple and enjoy yourself doing it.
